This Indian standard fifth revision was adopted by the Bureau of Indian standards, after the drawlfinalized by the Committee of sectionhad been approved by the Council engineering metallurgical division. This standard was first published in 1956 and revised in 1962, 1974, 1982 and 1989. In the review of the standard in the light of the experience gained over the years, the Committee decided that the standard may be subsequently revised. In this revision different clauses have been aligned on the recent standards of steel castings. Amendments No. 1 and 2 have also been incorporated in this revision. “In the preparation of this standard, the assistance has been derived from IS0 3755: 1991 ‘ cast carbon steels for general engineering purposes. For the purposes of deciding if a particular requirement of this standard is met, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis is rounded in accordance with IS 2: 1960 ‘rules for rounding numerical values (revised)’. The number of significant places in the rounded value should be the same as the value specified in this standard.
